National small business innovation and technology transfer conference
Washington came to Wisconsin through a national conference hosted by UW-Extension's Division of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development: the Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) conference in Madison in April 2011.
More than 630 attendees benefitted through access to:
- One-on-one private meetings with SBIR agencies and collaborators
- Workshops, panels and presentations
- Poster sessions for attendees to showcase their technologies, products and services
The event connected university researchers, private sector scientists and startup company managers with business resources, technical expertise and funding opportunities available through participating federal agencies. Highlights of the event included lectures and panel presentations by leaders from the U.S. Small Business Administration, National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Academy of Sciences, Kauffman Foundation and more.
Attendees also met one-on-one with federal program managers, learned to submit competitive research proposals and get the latest on grants from defense, agriculture, energy, health and other federal program areas. The event also featured tours of the U.S. Forest Products Laboratory and the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery, a new public-private interdisciplinary research facility designed to accelerate new knowledge to improve human health and well-being.
