We offer students the opportunity to pursue a degree while living in their home community at our campuses, online or through the self-paced UW Flexible Option program. Many UW Colleges students are the first in their families to attend colleges. One-third are adults, and one-third attend on a part-time basis. Most important, students who spend their first two years at a UW Colleges have a proven record of success and achievement.
UW-Extension faculty and staff work in all 72 counties of the state to enhance the quality of life in Wisconsin. When you watch Wisconsin Public Television or listen to Wisconsin Public Radio, you are experiencing UW-Extension. When you participate in 4-H or Master Gardeners, you are touched by UW-Extension. Our faculty and staff provide cutting-edge information and assistance to agriculture sectors and to small businesses and entrepreneurs through the Wisconsin SBDC Network and programs like Ideadvance; assist communities in planning for sustainable growth and development while preserving vital environmental and natural resources; and coach families in getting the most for their food dollar, in raising their children and in managing their finances. UW-Extension promotes lifelong learning and educational innovation through the UW Flexible Option and other collaborative degree programs, and through its support of distance learning, e-learning and continuing education across the University of Wisconsin System institutions.
These two institutions are dedicated to and are living examples of the Wisconsin Idea — the belief that access to the knowledge and resources of the University of Wisconsin should be spread to all corners of the state. I am proud to be associated with these institutions because they create countless opportunities for Wisconsin residents to prosper and grow.
