Welcome to the University of Wisconsin Colleges and University of Wisconsin-Extension, two institutions that share a common chancellor, administration, and commitment to:
- Grow people by providing access to degrees and educational programs,
- Grow jobs through our work in economic development and entrepreneurship, and
- Grow healthy, vibrant communities across our state.
UW-Extension and UW Colleges bring together individuals, public- and private-sector partners, and communities in order to provide Wisconsin’s 5.7 million residents with access to university-based research, resources, information, and expertise.
The 13 UW Colleges campuses and UW Colleges Online are the gateway to the University of Wisconsin System for more than 14,000 students of all ages, providing access to higher education to many who otherwise might not be able to pursue a college degree. We welcome all students, regardless of previous academic record, family history, or personal situation. Many UW Colleges students are the first in their families to attend college, one-third are adults, and one-third attend on a part-time basis. The UW Colleges campuses located around the state are affordable. They have the lowest tuition in the University of Wisconsin System and offer students the opportunity to pursue a degree while living in their home community. UW Colleges Online provides students with the flexibility to pursue their educational goals wherever they live and work. Most important, students who spend their first two years at a UW Colleges campus have a proven record of success and achievement.
UW-Extension faculty and staff work in all 72 counties of the state to enhance the quality of life in Wisconsin. When you watch Wisconsin Public Television or listen to Wisconsin Public Radio, you are experiencing UW-Extension. When you participate in 4-H or Master Gardeners, you are touched by UW-Extension. Our faculty and staff provide cutting-edge information and assistance to small-business and agriculture sectors; assist communities in planning for sustainable growth and development while preserving vital environmental and natural resources; and coach families in getting the most for their food dollar, in raising their children, and in managing their finances. UW-Extension promotes lifelong learning and workforce development through its support of distance learning, e-learning, and continuing education across the University of Wisconsin System institutions.
These two institutions are dedicated to and are living examples of the Wisconsin Idea—the belief that access to the knowledge and resources of the University of Wisconsin should be spread to all corners of the state. I am proud to be associated with these institutions because I believe they create countless opportunities for Wisconsin residents to prosper and grow.
Thank you for your interest in the UW Colleges and UW-Extension.
