As I was growing up, my family was a big supporter of UW-Extension in Grant County. My dad helped with dairy judging and provided dairy project animals to numerous kids over the years. He always made a point to visit each kid several times each year to see how things were going. My mom typed the sale book for the annual Holstein Spring Sale for many years. When I was in 4-H, I also benefited from the many programs UW-Extension provided, not only in the dairy sciences, but also mechanical projects, speech, and more. These are skills that build leadership, organization, and memories that last a lifetime.
