Klemme appointed interim dean and director of Cooperative Extension
Richard M. (Rick) Klemme, former associate dean of UW-Madison's College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and Cooperative Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources program leader, will serve as Cooperative Extension's interim dean and director for a three-year period, beginning Feb. 1, 2007.
Former Dean and Director Arlen Leholm has accepted a position as executive director for the North Central Regional Association of State Agricultural Experiment Stations Directors.
UW Colleges and UW-Extension Chancellor David Wilson says, "This interim position will allow us to maintain and build on Cooperative Extension's strength and stability during this time of transition. I'm convinced that Rick has the depth and breadth of experience to successfully lead Cooperative Extension as we move forward."
Klemme says of his new appointment, "I accepted this position with its challenges and opportunities knowing that I have an opportunity to work with a thousand of the most dedicated, passionate group of extension workers in the country."

Lampe appointed UW Colleges interim vice chancellor and provost
Greg Lampe, currently associate vice chancellor for UW Colleges, has been appointed by Chancellor David Wilson to serve as interim vice chancellor and provost of UW Colleges effective July 1. Margaret Cleek, UW Colleges provost and vice chancellor, will retire on July 5.
In announcing Lampe's new position, Wilson said, "Greg's interim appointment will last approximately two years because I want to maintain stability in the academic affairs area and build on the momentum we have achieved as we begin to construct the UW Colleges strategic plan."
Lampe recently provided leadership to the Commission on Enhancing the Mission of the UW Colleges by serving as the lead support staff. He began his career at UW Colleges in 1983 as an instructor at UW-Marshfield/Wood County. He has held faculty positions at the rank of assistant, associate and full professor in the communication and theatre arts department, which he also chaired. He has also served as interim campus dean at UW-Rock County in Janesville and as associate vice chancellor and interim provost/vice chancellor for the UW Colleges.
Lampe earned a doctorate in communication arts from UW-Madison, a master's degree in communication studies from Northern Illinois University, and a bachelor's degree in education from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.
