Recent statewide and national professional awards and appointments received by UW Colleges and UW-Extension faculty and staffThree UW-Extension employees have been named to leadership positions in the American Evaluation Association. Heather Boyd, Cooperative Extension evaluation specialist, was elected program chair for the Extension Education Evaluation topical interest group. Mary Crave, Continuing Education, Outreach and E-Learning program development and evaluation specialist, was elected North Central representative to the Extension Education Evaluation Board. Ellen Taylor-Powell, Cooperation Extension evaluation specialist, was selected as a member-at-large on the association's board of directors.
Wisconsin Public Radio received a number of awards in January from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association.

Best Use of Audio Award: Gil Halsted for "Unique Ceremony Commemorates Lives Lost in War"

Wisconsin Public Radio reporter Gil Halsted has received one of eight national USC Annenberg Institute for Justice and Journalism Criminal Justice fellowships. As part of his fellowship Halsted will produce a series of stories on re-entry programs for prisoners returning to their communities in Madison and Milwaukee for broadcast on WPR.
Wava Haney, professor emerita of anthropology and sociology, UW-Richland, is the recipient of the George Floro Award for Outstanding Service presented by the Wisconsin Sociological Association. She has also been appointed to the American Sociological Association Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award Committee.
Wisconsin Public Television has received a Best of the Best Award from the National Educational Telecommunications Association for its 2005 annual report. Congratulations go to writer/editor Moira Harrington, designer Melissa O'Loughlin and photographer Jim Gill. Thirty-eight awards were presented, with three endeavors—including the Wisconsin Public Television Annual Report—receiving special recognition as "best of the best."
Erica Kauten, the recently retired director of the UW-Extension division of Business and Manufacturing, is the recipient of the 2006 national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Supporter of Entrepreneurship Award.
Joanne Kluessendorf, director of the Weis Earth Science Museum at UW-Fox Valley, is the 2006 recipient of the American Geological Institute (AGI) Award for Outstanding Contribution to Public Understanding of the Geosciences.
Harald Schenk, astronomy lecturer, UW-Sheboygan, was recently reappointed as a Solar System Ambassador for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
The Arthur M. Kaplan Fellows, named annually, are faculty and staff who make significant and innovative improvements in instruction and service to UW Colleges students. The award bears the name of a former UW Colleges vice chancellor who was deeply committed to quality instruction and service for students.
