Business and Manufacturing Extension is now Division of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development
UW-Extension's Business and Manufacturing Extension is now called the Division of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development. The division encompasses a dozen Small Business Development Centers, four specialty centers located throughout the state, and the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Network (WEN).
The division's interim director, Debra Malewicki, explains the change thus: "The new name emphasizes the direction of the division. The Small Business Development Center has more than 25 years of experience in supporting entrepreneurs, who make a critical contribution to economic development. With the advent of the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Network, we are building partnerships to create seamless access to resources and expertise to both spawn new ventures and help grow existing businesses. Our goal, which is summarized in the new name, is to support entrepreneurship in the state."
Entrepreneurship and Economic Development is one of four UW-Extension divisions. The other three divisions include Broadcasting and Media Innovations; Continuing Education, Outreach and E-Learning; and Cooperative Extension.
