David M. Mickelson, emeritus professor, geology and geophysics, UW-Madison. Landscapes of Dane, County, Wisconsin, Wisconsin Geologic and Natural History Survey, 2007.
Learn how vast ancient seas, torrential rivers, persistent winds and gigantic masses of ice have shaped the natural landscapes seen in today's Dane County. An accompanying full-color map shows landscape and geologic contrasts and highlights the locations of many parks that allow the user to see where the county's easily accessible public spaces lie in relation to the geology.
This illustrated 40-page, approximately 4-inch-by-9-inch book (easy to fit into a glove compartment or backpack) can be ordered from the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey (WGNHS), a unit of the UW-Extension Cooperative Extension.
