Chancellor's Award Banquet masters of ceremonies named
Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) Interim Director of Production Kathy Bissen and UW-Waukesha Dean and Campus Executive Officer Patrick Schmitt will serve as masters of ceremonies at the Chancellor's Awards Banquet Sept. 20 in Madison. Chancellor David Wilson will host the event.
A joint event
In announcing Bissen's and Schmitt's selection, Wilson said, "The awards banquet planning committee and I want to emphasize that this is a joint UW Colleges and UW-Extension event. We also want to showcase the professionalism of both institutions. Kathy and Patrick are the perfect team to fulfill both of these goals."
A well-qualified team
As interim director of production at WPT, Bissen oversees all the work produced for the statewide network, including news and public affairs, documentaries, sports, cultural events and educational projects. Her work has garnered numerous awards including a national Emmy Award. She has also led WPT's news team to its first Edward R. Murrow Award and three consecutive USC Annenberg Walter Cronkite National Awards for Excellence in Political Journalism. Prior to joining WPT in 1989, Bissen was a news reporter and anchor at an NBC affiliate.
Before becoming dean and CEO at UW-Waukesha on Jan. 1, 2006, Schmitt was a professor and administrator at colleges and universities in Illinois, Florida and Tennessee. He earned his doctorate in theater at UW-Madison, and has experience as director, producer, playwright, dramaturg and actor. Schmitt also has done graduate-level study focused on instructional technology.
Awards recognize excellence
The Chancellor's Awards recognize the exceptional teaching, outreach, collaborations, and public service of UW Colleges and UW-Extension employees, partners and supporters during the past year. The awards expand the former UW-Extension Annual Awards, a popular 40-year tradition, to include all employees and partners of the two institutions. Accordingly, awards have been revised to embrace the outstanding contributions of both institutions.
The 2007 Chancellor's Awards categories are:
- Wisconsin Idea Award
- Award for Excellence in Civic Engagement
- Award for Excellence in Collaboration
- Award for Outstanding Achievement
- Career Award
Recipients to be announced in August
Chancellor Wilson will announce the recipients of the Chancellor's Awards via e-mail in August. That e-mail will also include an invitation to all employees and friends to the Sept. 20 banquet.
