Marsha Henfer—Chief Information OfficerOn July 1, Marsha Henfer became the first permanent chief information officer for UW Colleges and UW-Extension. Dick Cleek served as interim CIO of both institutions for 18 months before his retirement on July 5.
Henfer is experienced in managing technology, projects, processes and people in state government and in higher education.
As director of the Wisconsin State Legislature's Legislative Technology Services Bureau, Henfer served the technology needs of 132 legislative offices, 1,200 users, 14 district offices and six service agencies. She set computing standards and strategic direction, developed agency policy, chaired the technology steering committee, assessed current and future risks, created cost-benefit analyses, and advised the legislative leadership on technology recommendations and direction.
As director of information services for Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids, Henfer ensured that technology services met the academic and administrative requirements for more than 12,000 students (at four campus locations and online) and faculty and staff. She led the departments of information systems, application development, graphic design, distance education, video production and the technology center.
Henfer earned her master's in business administration at UW-Oshkosh. Her bachelor's degree in criminal justice is from UW-Milwaukee.

Alan Hardersen—Dean and Campus Executive Officer, UW-Sheboygan
Al Hardersen brings 30 years of experience in higher education to his new position of dean and campus executive officer of UW-Sheboygan. He began his new position on July 1.
Hardersen takes over from Mary Beth Emmerichs, who had served as interim dean and campus executive officer since August 2006, when CEO/Dean Ray Hernandez stepped down.
Hardersen has taught, counseled and served as an administrator at three community colleges in Illinois. His experience includes enrollment management; recruiting and retaining students; strategic planning; and working with business, labor and community leaders.
For the past 10 years, he has served as the vice president of student services at Joliet Junior College in Joliet, Ill., and has served as the college's administrator-in-charge for seven years.
Hardersen earned his doctorate in adult continuing education and educational policy and master of science degree in community mental health counseling at Northern Illinois University. He received his bachelor's degree in sociology and social work from Augustana College, and is a graduate of the Executive Leadership Institute in Costa Mesa, Calif.

David Mathieu—Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Services and Enrollment Management
David Mathieu began his new position as UW Colleges associate vice chancellor of student services and enrollment management on July 1.
Before joining UW Colleges, Mathieu was special assistant to the vice chancellor for academic affairs at the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. Previous to that, Mathieu served as vice president for academic and student affairs at Normandale Community College. He has supervised registrar and financial aid functions, TRIO, Upward Bound and Student Support Services, among other units. In addition, he has worked closely with tribal colleges in Minnesota, Montana and South Dakota, and continues to teach in the area of American Indian studies.
Mathieu also has served as dean of academic and student support at Montana State University, worked with international residential students at University of California at San Diego, and was the chief student affairs officer at Minnesota State University in Akita, Japan.
He earned his doctor of education degree in higher education administration from the University of South Dakota. Both his bachelor's degree in American Indian studies and master's degree in American studies are from the University of Minnesota.

Lisa Seale, professor of English and special assistant to the dean, UW-Marathon County, has been appointed to the position of interim associate vice chancellor for academic affairs for the UW Colleges. The two-year appointment is effective as of July 9, 2007. She is stepping into Greg Lampe's former position as he becomes the UW Colleges interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs upon the retirement of Margaret Cleek on July 5, 2007.
Seale's leadership in governance roles and other service to the UW Colleges and the UW System is extensive. She represented the UW Colleges faculty on the UW Colleges and UW-Extension Administrative Integration Steering Committee in 2005-06. In 2005, she chaired the search-and-screen committee for the UW Colleges and UW-Extension chancellor. As chair of the UW Colleges Senate Steering Committee, Seale served on the UW System Faculty Representatives Council (2003-05), during which time she was also a member of the Advisory Committee for the UW System Inclusivity Initiative. In 2003-04, she served as a faculty representative on the Achieving Operating Efficiencies Working Group for the UW Board of Regents' Charting a New Course for the UW System.
Seale earned her doctorate in English at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Sandra R. Smith—Dean and Campus Executive Officer, UW-Marathon County
On July 1, Sandra R. Smith became dean and campus executive officer of UW-Marathon County. She replaces Dean/CEO Jim Veninga, who will continue as an associate professor of religious studies at the campus.
Smith comes to Wisconsin from the Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. During her 15 years at that campus, Smith served as director of student and enrollment services, interim chancellor, interim director of academic affairs, interim director of student affairs and faculty member.
She has a doctorate in health and physical education with a major emphasis in sports administration from Ohio State University, a master's degree in the same fields from Kent State University, and a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Smith is the first woman dean at UW-Marathon County and the eighth dean in the history of the campus, which was established in 1947.

Malcolm Brett—Director, Broadcasting and Media Innovations
Malcolm Brett became director of Broadcasting and Media Innovations (BAMI) on July 1, 2007. He had served as interim director of BAMI since the July 2006 retirement of Byron Knight.
For the six years previous to being named to his interim position, Brett was director of Wisconsin Public Television, a unit of BAMI operated in partnership with the Wisconsin Educational Communications Board (ECB). During his two decades at WPT, Brett has also served as production manager for a national technology series, corporate development manager, director of development and executive director of Friends of WHA-TV.
As BAMI director Brett will be responsible for guidance and oversight of Wisconsin Public Television (WPT); Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR), a partnership with the ECB; Instructional Communications Systems (ICS); and the National Center for Outreach (NCO), an initiative funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
Brett earned his bachelor's degree in communications at UW-Madison.

David Schejbal—Dean and Director, Division of Continuing Education, Outreach and E-Learning
David Schejbal became the new dean and director of the UW-Extension Division of Continuing Education, Outreach and E-Learning on July 1. He replaces Interim Dean Leon Zaborowski, who retired in January 2007.
Previously Schejbal was associate vice chancellor and director of continuing education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he also served as associate provost and director of continuing education and associate vice chancellor. Prior to these appointments, Schejbal was associate dean of university college and director of summer session and special programs at Northwestern University.
In his new role, Schejbal will be responsible for planning and coordinating outreach and professional development programming offered on UW System's 26 campuses. He will oversee units focused on the development and use of learning technology, instructional design and development, faculty development, marketing, IT and learner services in support of the 26 UW campuses' online degree and certificate programs.
Schejbal earned his bachelor's degree in philosophy from Iowa State University and a master's degree and doctorate in philosophy from the University of Connecticut.
