A message from Vice Chancellor Marv Van Kekerix on strategic planning
Developing a strategic plan to guide our future

We are about to embark on an important effort to move forward with a strategic-planning process that will bring the UW Colleges and UW-Extension together under a single umbrella strategic plan. As the vice chancellor for UW Colleges and UW-Extension, I will lead this important and exciting undertaking.
Priorities and goals announced in June
As you know, there are a number of major strategic priorities and goals that will drive the planning process. Those priorities and goals, which were distilled from the information collected from the numerous listening sessions held across the state by Chancellor David Wilson, were articulated in a preliminary fashion and distributed widely across both UW Colleges and UW-Extension in the June 2007 Chancellor's Communiqué.
The planning process
Our strategic-planning process will be as follows:
Steering Committee members to be announced in August
The next step in the process involves the creation of a 10-to-12 member Strategic Planning Steering Committee, broadly representative across both UW Colleges and UW-Extension. Chancellor Wilson plans to appoint the committee members in August.
Connecting institutional and unit goals and priorities
As chair of the committee, I will be calling on the members of the committee and others involved in the various planning processes that are in place across both institutions and within the various operating units to help shape an overall plan that makes the connections between the major institutional priorities and goals and plans at the unit level. While not every unit level goal will be reflected in the overall priorities and goals, there will be a significant level of "kinship" between the unit priorities and goals and those at the institutional level. The strategic plan will serve as a guide in shaping our future.
Plan in place summer 2008
We anticipate that the majority of the work associated with creating the plan will take place between fall 2007 and early spring 2008. The completed plan should be in place by summer 2008.
