Gayle Kugler—Interim Director, Division of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development

Gayle Kugler has been named interim director of the UW-Extension Division of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (DEED) and the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Network (WEN). Kugler was also recently appointed as permanent state director of the Wisconsin Small Business Development Centers, a unit of DEED.

Kugler served as associate director of DEED beginning in July 2006 until her Sept. 1, 2007, appointment as interim director. She succeeds Debra Malewicki, who served as DEED interim director from the July 2006 retirement of Erica Kauten until Sept. 1, 2007, when she returned to the UW-Whitewater campus as director of corporate programs.

As interim director, Kugler will provide leadership for DEED as it continues to play a vital role in promoting entrepreneurship and small-business development as key components in the state's economic development efforts.

Before joining UW-Extension, Kugler was president of Paint the Rain LLC, a private graphic design company. Previous to that, she was a senior executive and plant manager for Quad/Graphics Inc. in Lomira.

Kugler earned her degree in sociology and social work at UW-Madison. She has completed graduate-level courses in management, leadership, human resources, business education and entrepreneurial leadership at UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee and the University of Chicago.
