On the evening of Sept. 20, UW campus chancellors and provosts, UW Colleges and UW-Extension deans and directors, UW System dignitaries, elected officials, members of boards of visitors, colleagues, faculty, staff, friends and family members celebrated the outstanding achievements of UW Colleges and UW-Extension employees and partners at the inaugural Chancellor's Award Banquet.
Almost 200 people gathered at the Lowell Center in Madison to enjoy a dinner prepared by the Extension Conference Centers staff and learn more about UW Colleges' and UW-Extension's work in providing knowledge, research and resources to residents throughout the state. Kathy Bissen, interim director of production for Wisconsin Public Television, and Patrick Schmitt, dean and campus executive officer for UW-Waukesha, were masters of ceremonies for the event.
Creating a new integrated tradition
UW Colleges and UW-Extension Chancellor David Wilson, who hosted for the event, told attendees that for 40 years UW-Extension had held an annual awards banquet to honor employees and partners. He explained that the first Chancellor's Award Banquet was intended to expand that tradition by encompassing the accomplishments of both UW-Extension and UW Colleges.
Wilson added, "If we want true quality and depth in our institutional work, it is necessary to understand not only the differences, but also the similarities in our institutions and mission. One similarity that comes to mind is that everyone in this room is proud to serve an institution whose mission includes access, excellence and quality for people of all ages, races, incomes and ZIP codes in Wisconsin."

A total of 14 awards were bestowed to individuals and teams. A highlight of the evening was a short video ( Real Media Player | Windows Media Player ) produced by Wisconsin Public Television, which showcased the work of the Walnut Way Conservation Corporation, the recipient of the Wisconsin Idea Award.
