UW Colleges and UW-Extension to host April UW Regents meeting
UW Colleges and UW-Extension will host the April 10-11, 2008, University of Wisconsin Board of Regents meeting. The meetings of the full board and the committee meetings will be held at The Pyle Center on the UW-Madison campus.
Planning and preparation for the meeting have been underway for several months and include a presentation by UW Colleges and UW-Extension Chancellor David Wilson to the full board, tours, displays and exhibits, opportunities for the regents to interact with students and youth, and an evening reception.
Spotlight on UW Colleges and UW-Extension work
"This is an excellent opportunity for UW Colleges and UW-Extension to showcase their leading-edge work in providing access to educational opportunities for Wisconsin residents of all ages and at all stages of their lives," says Chancellor Wilson. "I am looking forward to demonstrating to the regents, UW System leaders and others how our institutions add to the quality of life in Wisconsin."
Wide institutional involvement
Co-chairs for planning the event are Teri Venker, executive director of university relations for UW Colleges and UW-Extension, and Bill Mann, director of the Extension Conference Centers. Lisa Seale, UW Colleges interim associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, and Ann Keim, UW Colleges and UW-Extension special assistant to the provosts of UW Colleges and UW-Extension, are co-chairs of the programming committee. Numerous UW Colleges and UW-Extension faculty and staff, UW Colleges students and UW-Extension clients will contribute to the two-day event.
Regents' meeting events
Some of the events on the agenda include:
- Chancellor Wilson will make a presentation to the full UW Board of Regents tentatively titled "In Touch with Wisconsin: UW Colleges and UW-Extension." He will focus on the impact of UW Colleges' and UW-Extension's work in the city of Milwaukee and efforts on the part of our institutions to create jobs and make communities stronger. In addition, he will outline how our institutions are working to provide maximum access to higher education so that adult and nontraditional students can start, continue and complete their bachelor's degree.
- At lunch on April 10, 4-H and pre-college youth will lead round-table discussions with the regents on how UW-Extension and UW-Colleges programming has raised their aspirations to go to college, become involved in their communities, and develop their leadership skills.
- UW Colleges students will join the regents for breakfast on April 11 to discuss their UW Colleges experience and issues affecting their education.
- An evening reception celebrating the 50th anniversary of Extension Conference Centers will feature music by UW Colleges students and showcase food (specialty cheeses, meats and vegetables) supplied by local producers who have developed their businesses with assistance from UW-Extension programs. The event also will include recognition of UW Colleges and UW-Extension leaders and partners who have contributed to the institutions' successes.
- Posters of UW Colleges student research projects and other UW Colleges programs will line the corridors outside the meeting rooms. Additionally, UW Colleges student and faculty art will be exhibited at The Pyle Center during the entire month of April.

- Know your regents

UW Board of Regents President Mark Bradley has named Regent Judith Crain and Regent Thomas Loftus as board liaisons to UW Colleges and UW-Extension. Each year regents are named as liaisons to UW institutions so they can become more knowledgeable about those institutions and the institutional communities can come to know the individual regents.
