Faculty and staff share their books with the UW Regents

UW Colleges and UW-Extension faculty and staff members are a knowledgeable lot, and dozens of them share their knowledge through books they have authored.

Books displayed at UW Regents Meeting

A highlight of the April 10 and 11 UW Board of Regents Meeting hosted by UW Colleges and UW-Extension was a display of books authored by UW Colleges and UW-Extension employees.

Lisa Seale, interim assistant vice chancellor, UW Colleges, explains, "Those of us involved in planning for the meeting wanted to demonstrate the wide breadth and depth of knowledge within our two institutions to the regents, UW leaders and other attendees."

"The books, along with student-research posters and displays showcasing the accomplishments and services of various campuses, divisions and units, provided tangible evidence of the outstanding work being done at UW Colleges and UW-Extension," says Ann Keim, special assistant to the provosts, UW Colleges and UW-Extension, and co-chair with Keim of the UW Regents Meeting programming committee.

Faculty and staff loan books

Just one day after the deans and directors invited faculty and staff to loan copies of their recently published books for the display, thick padded envelopes and securely taped boxes began arriving at headquarters in Madison. A few authors even delivered their books in person.

At the Regents Meeting, attendees browsed through the books: paging through them, taking a couple of minutes to skim a couple of paragraphs or study a chart, and admiring the colorful covers.

Many books, many subjects

Close to 70 books were displayed. Among the subjects represented were:

  • Archaeology
  • Biography
  • Biological sciences
  • Communications
  • Distance-learning technology
  • Economics
  • Environmental studies
  • Fiction
  • Gardening
  • Geography
  • Geology
  • History
  • Memoirs
  • Poetry
