Outlook Tips: Did you know you can do this?
- Tip #1 - When Outlook is minimized there is a button on the Taskbar (at the bottom of your screen), to all users to easily maximize Outlook and continue working with Outlook. If you are one of those users who has several programs running at the same time, the Taskbar gets pretty full. There is an option in Outlook to allow users to hide the Outlook taskbar button and utilize the icon that is displayed in the notification area. The notification area is located on the far right end of the taskbar. To enable this right click on the Outlook icon in the notification area and select "Hide When Minimized" When there is a check mark next to that option users will not see Outlook on the Taskbar, only in the notification area . To maximize Outlook, right click on the icon in the notification area and select Open Outlook. See the image below.

- Tip #2 - The Desktop Alert (Toast), does not have to be located in the lower right hand corner of the screen. For users who like the tool, but might see it sooner in a different location, or want it in a different location because it interferes with an application they use, the Desktop Alert can be moved to any location on the screen. When it appears, click on the gray bar and drag the alert to the new location. For more information about Desktop Alert options, check out this past CTOW: http://www.uwex.uwc.edu/outlook/tips/?file=2006-06-09 .
- Tip #3 - Delete names from the AutoComplete list.: When a user types an email address into the To: text box Outlook remembers the name. The next time the first letter of that address is typed, a list of addresses that have been entered, and begin with that letter, will pop up. There are times when a wrong address is typed or a user wants to remove someone from the auto complete list. To remove a name, select the unwanted name by using the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW key and then press DELETE.
- Tip #4 -
Flag that message fast: Select a message in the message list, and then press INSERT.
- Tip #5 -
Contact meeting attendees with a reminder or other message: Sometimes not all invitees respond to a meeting request and the meeting organizer needs to remind them to about the meeting. To send that reminder open the original meeting request, click the Actions menu, and then click New Message to Attendees .
There are many other cool tips for Outlook users, especially for those users who are interested in working efficiently with Outlook. Microsoft Office Online is a great resource for finding those tips. Be sure to look for tips for Outlook 2003.
