What are Google Alerts
Google has introduced another tool that makes staying connected with topics of interest on the web very easy. The image below is a screen shot of Google's welcome re. Google Alerts. There is information in the screen shot which provides some examples of "handy uses of Google Alerts".

How to Access and Create Google Alerts
To set up Google Alerts go to www.google.com/alerts.
Follow the steps in the Create a Google Alert widget.
The Type of alert has five options: News, Blogs, Web Groups and Comprehensive.
The frequency (How often) of the alert is another setting with options. They include: once a day, as it happens, once a week.
Both of these are noted by a "star" on the image below.

Once all the items are filled in, click on the Create Alert button.
The next screen users will see is a confirmation screen. It tells users they will receive a verification email and must click the link in the verification email to confirm their request. After clicking on the link in the verification email, a web page opens which indicates the Google Alert is verified.
Once this is completed users will begin receiving Google Alerts via email.
Users can create multiple Google Alerts. and also manage their alerts at the Google Alerts web site. Just click on "You can also sign in to manage your alerts "
